The Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre is an academic emergency room with approximately 65,000 visits per year.  The hospital specializes in obstetrical care and care of the elderly.  Situated in the heart of downtown Toronto, Mount Sinai Hospital cares for a high proportion of homeless patients as well as patients with mental health and addiction issues.

The St. Michael’s Emergency Centre is a busy academic emergency room.  The hospital serves as a regional trauma, stroke, and catheterization centre.  Situated in the heart of downtown Toronto, St. Michael’s services a large proportion of homeless patients as well as those with mental health and addiction issues.

This active community emergency department treats approximately 85,000 patients per year with a broad variety of clinical problems. Pediatrics patients make up approximately 30% of the ED population and are cared for in a dedicated pediatric centre.

The Brampton Civic Hospital Emergency Department is one of the busiest, high acuity emergency rooms in Ontario with approximately 135,000 patient visits per year.  Pediatrics comprise 30% of their patient population.

The Charlotte and Lewis Steinberg Emergency Centre at NYGH is a busy general community emergency department with approximately 100,000 patient visits per year.  NYGH is a regional children’s health centre where 20% of patients seen in the ER are children.  The hospital also has a strong obstetrical focus.

The Critical Care Unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has twenty beds.  The hospital is a regional stroke, trauma, and catheterization centre and specializes in neurosurgery and vascular surgery.  The Health Centre also has a dedicated 13-bed cardiac critical care unit.

St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto is a community teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto that has served the communities of West Toronto for nearly a century.  St. Joseph’s provides acute surgical services for 12,000 cases per year in the fields of thoracics, hepatobiliary, bariatrics, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, gynecology, ENT, plastics, dentistry, and ophthalmology.  The Department of Anesthesia also supports the Family Birthing Centre where more than 3,300 deliveries occur each year.  The epidural rate is approximately 70%.

Unity Health Network, St. Michael's Hospital

The Trauma Program at St. Michael’s Hospital was accredited in 2006 as a Level 1 trauma centre and provides care to multi-system trauma patients in the southern GTA and South Central Ontario.  It plays a central role in the regional trauma system, receiving patients for quaternary trauma care from across the province.  St. Michael’s Trauma Team cares for approximately 700 trauma victims per year.

The Tory Regional Trauma Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is home to Canada’s first and largest trauma centre.  Since 1976, the Tory Regional Trauma Centre has provided highly specialized care for the most severely injured adult patients in Ontario.  Patients arrive by land and air ambulance from over 80 referring hospitals around the province.  It is also a designated trauma centre for wounded Canadian soldiers.
